About The Veterans Services Program

The Tribal Veterans Service Office is intended to help Tribal Veterans access and use VA benefits and services to better their health and life. A State Grant and Tribal Grant fund the Lac Du Flambeau Veteran Service Office. Open 40 hours per week at the Lac Du Flambeau Veterans Building. The mission is to advocate within the Community for Veterans, their dependents, and survivors. To help them find services to obtain healthcare, education, employment, financial help, and many other services from state and federal resources.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR TVSO ASSISTANCE?

To be eligible for Wisconsin state veterans’ benefits, programs, and services, a veteran’s service, as characterized on the military discharge certificate (i.e., DD Form 214) must have been honorable, under honorable conditions, or general under honorable conditions. Veterans with characterizations of uncharacterized, bad conduct, other than honorable or dishonorable can seek to have their discharge upgraded through the military appeals process. Veterans may request a hearing to have the VA decide their case. Most veterans who follow this process and become eligible for general federal VA benefits will also be granted eligibility for Wisconsin state benefits.

MENTAL HEALTH OFFERED AT THE VETERANS SERVICE OFFICE

The Lac Du Flambeau Family Resource Center will be providing Mental Health Services at the Lac Du Flambeau Veteran Building. The mental Health Counselor will be at the Veterans building once a week to provide mental health services to Veterans. Contact the Lac Du Flambeau Family Resource Center for appointment time and date.

WHAT IS 988?

The Veterans Crisis Line's new number—988 then Press 1—helps make it easier to remember and share the number to access help in times of need. Signed into law in 2020, the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act authorized 988 as the new three-digit number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. As part of the law, all telephone service providers in the U.S. had to activate the number no later than July 16, 2022.Veterans can use this new option by dialing 988 and pressing 1 to contact the Veterans Crisis Line.
